'Redefining Colour' Original Backlit Acrylic + Stories 100 cm x 100 cm

Who needs a colour chart when you've got nature? The colours of nature in all their vibrant 3D glory, named and colour matched, redefining the design industry standard. 'Redefining Colour' is a bold, vibrant large scale PhotoArt, backlit on acrylic.

'Redefining Colour' is Mandy Stacey's first original PhotoArt, here's the story behind it:

"In 2016 two things happened that could have been bad, but ended up being lucky. Firstly, I lost my job so I had time to roam the streets and the countryside around my home;  and secondly my stress brought on colour synesthesia which made me see the world in a whole new colourful way and express myself creatively. Wherever I went, colours leapt out at me, stopping me in my tracks and I was compelled to capture them with my camera.

To make 'Redefining Colour' I selected my images to represent a full colour palette; naming each; matching each to its Pantone Number. The images were then laid out in a celebration of the full colour spectrum of nature. With 9 different colours in 12 shades there are 108 colour swatches to pick from.

I wanted the PhotoArt to be backlit for full vibrancy, as if full of sunshine. It was printed on a large size white acrylic board (104 cm sq) with an LED panel hidden behind it, the dimmer switch controlling the light intensity, managing the mood of the artwork. (My specially commissioned, dimmable Light Panel works brilliantly. I just wish Backlits were easier to photograph... trust me they look even better in real life.)"

'Redefining Colour' glows with life, the colours captivating. And, as with all of Mandy Stacey's PhotoArt, it combines imagery with storytelling. So, behind every image is a little story (sometimes amusing, sometimes inspiring, always interesting) recorded as an audio by Mandy Stacey or to read as a booklet accompanying the art piece.
