'The Colours of Gudhjem' - 25 cm x 25 cm Art Poster + Stories - part of Mandy Stacey’s 'Bornholm Places' series, captures the essence of beautiful Gudhjem.

Everyone who visits Bornholm, soon discovers Gudhjem, the characterful harbourside town on the rocky North coast. And it’s easy to appreciate Gudhjem’s charm as you wander the steep streets with their terracotta roofed houses, enjoying an icecream and watching the boats bobbing in the little harbour.

This small but perfectly formed Fine Art Print is made up of 13 images of Gudhjem’s highlights, in a pretty summery colour palette of yellow, turquoise, terracotta and pink, showcasing Mandy Stacey's unique modern style of PhotoArt where harmonious images are combined with storytelling.

  • At its heart is the central 'Hero Shot' of the cutest old smokery cottage. With its soft yellow paintwork, white wooden fence and pink roses it transports you back to the old-world charm of Gudhjem.
  • Surrounded by 'Colour Samples' of little slices of Bornholm life from the area: The biggest and best-known of the four 12th Century round white churches Østerlars; Gudhjem Mill the town’s distinctive landmark – and the biggest mill in Denmark - at the top of the hill; the view over Gudhjem’s typical terracotta tiled rooftops; the natural rocky towers of nearby Hellidomsklipperne in the bright blue Baltic Sea; and a calming dusky pink evening sky behind Gudhjem Church.
  • And beauty is in the detail of an old painted door; cherry blossom in a window; a wild frothy sea; a field of chamomiles; and the exquisite workmanship of Baltic Sea Glass.
  • And not forgetting, the litte pink tuk-tuk to remind you of that delicious creamy icecream from 'Gudhjem Is'.
  • And behind every image is a little story. Sometimes informative, sometimes inspiring, they’ll tell you where the pictures were taken and why. (Sent as a print-out with the poster.)

Product details: This Fine Art Print is printed on good quality paper (220gsm satin, sustainably sourced).

Size: 25 cm x 25 cm Square. Fits a standard 25 cm x 25 cm frame. (The modern, deep-set – and good value for money – Sannahed by Ikea in white looks particularly good to complete the “pretty look” but black works well too for a bolder look or standout from white walls.)

Note: Can be mixed and matched with other 'Bornholm Places Mini Art Posters' to make an Art Wall: Allinge & North Bornholm and Svaneke are also available.

FACTFILE:

  • 'The Colours of Gudhjem' is an edit of Mandy Stacey’s PhotoArt Series 'The Colours Of Bornholm: In All Four Seasons' which is on display in her Gallery “The House Of Many Colours” in Allinge.
  • Many of the images are featured in the colour palettes of her 12-Part Seasons Series, where the famous Bornholm artist Oluf Høst (1884-1966) plays an inspirational role in the artworks, with their parallel colour palettes for each season.
  • This is what Mandy Stacey has to say about the original exhibition artwork:

“I fell in love with Bornholm in the summer of 2022. It was easy. The vibrant colours, the breath-taking beauty of the nature, the ageless charm of the place. And then I discovered the famous artist Oluf Høst’s paintings of Bornholm, capturing the same scenes in the same bright colours, and it inspired me to create a PhotoArt Series celebrating the colours of Bornholm in all four seasons.”

  • Her interest in Oluf Høst was rewarded with an exhibition in The Oluf Høst Museum in 2023 using her PhotoArt to tell the fascinating story of the artist’s son Ole W. Høst who tragically died in WW2.
  • In Spring 2023, Mandy Stacey lived in Gudhjem, enjoying its timeless charm and walking in the footsteps of Oluf Høst. So, if you are looking for more Gudhjem images, many are included in the 'Spring Colours of Bornholm A1' (colour palette) and the 'Bornholm Spring Montage A2'.
  • Mandy Stacey is an English artist now living in Allinge with her Danish husband and business partner Curt Stavis. As well as creating her PhotoArt, they have a company Bornholm365 to develop business and tourism on the island all year round.
